San Antonio gears up
for Texas-Sized Festival!

The San Antonio Parks Foundation, along with the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, produces the annual New Year’s Eve event, Celebrate San Antonio. This free event features something for everyone including music on five stages and special entertainment areas for children and families. Celebrate San Antonio attracts approximately 250,000+ people to the downtown area. Most hotels report sellouts and local restaurants are at capacity during New Year’s Eve, thanks to the event and its popularity. The San Antonio Parks Foundation is proud to be able to contribute to the San Antonio economy by hosting this event for locals and out of town holiday visitors.

During Celebrate San Antonio 2006, CNN camera crews and correspondent Rick Sanchez was on site to show viewers all over the world our Texas-Sized Celebration! Additionally, a 2005 survey by Priceline.com for the first time ranked downtown San Antonio in the top 50 New Year’s Eve destinations at number 34, between Sydney, Australia and downtown Los Angeles. The San Antonio Parks Foundation views this ranking as a milestone for the City of San Antonio and for Celebrate San Antonio. There is no other New Year’s Eve event of this size, with fireworks, and offered free to the public in the state of Texas.

With live music, thousands of excited revelers, fireworks and entertainment for the entire family on tap during Celebrate San Antonio, this event grows in popularity each year. The huge downtown fiesta begins at 6 p.m. on S. Alamo Street between Market and Durango and throughout historic La Villita. Admission is free and open to the public and festivities continue until 12:30 a.m. The highlight is the countdown to midnight and the spectacular Fireworks Extravaganza showcasing the Tower of the Americas.

The San Antonio Parks Foundation, under the direction of former Mayor Lila Cockrell, has a superb reputation and is regarded highly among city staff and officials. All of the events produced by the Park Foundation are considered family oriented, free to the public, safe and of course… fun for all ages!
